Creepy Cupcakes

With Halloween just around the corner (ok, maybe not, but it's one of my favorite holidays so I'm already getting excited) I was reminded of one of my favorite kinds of cupcakes.  Creepy ones!

For several years now I have made graveyard cupcakes, which are chocolate cupcakes with fudge frosting rolled in crushed cookies and accented with either gummy worms or little tombstones.  Perfect way to honor the dead, or if you prefer, the undead.

Blimey!

Who knew Guinness Beer and chocolate complemented each other so well?

I knew, that's who, and I turned it in to a cupcake!  These Guinness cupcakes are chocolatey and rich, topped with a "foamy" cream cheese glaze and a sprinkling of cocoa powder.  Perfect for any celebration, not just Saint Patty's day!

Friday

Craving Sand in Your Toes?

I first made these for my dear friend Flora, who moved to Brazil last year. Her going away party had a beachy theme, so I decided a vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream fashioned to represent a beach would be perfect!

The cupcake is dipped in graham cracker "sand" and the blue waves have marshmallow "surf," all under the protection of a beach umbrella.

Tropicana

Fresh bananas make for one tasty cake, and when slathered with rich coconut cream cheese frosting you get a tropical combination that will make you want to dig out your coconut bra and grass skirt.

Wednesday

Raspberry Almond

My favorite spring cupcake! Not only do they look pretty with pastel pink frosting against flower petal wrappers, but they taste delicious too! I suddenly have an urge to whip out Grandma's china and start making tea...

First fresh raspberries are folded in to almond batter and baked to a light and airy cupcake. To top it off more fresh raspberries are swirled in to smooth cream cheese frosting and slathered on top.

Who's bringing the cucumber sandwiches?

Tuesday

My Almond Joy

My personal favorite. Fresh raspberries floating in fluffy almond cake, topped off with sweet almond buttercream and then rolled in sliced almonds, what more do you need in life?

And if you're feeling adventurous, the center can also be filled with fresh raspberry cream...
